Due to the coronavirus outbreak, scammers are using fake links to dupe people in the name of online coronavirus donations to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund, according to Maharashtra Cyber police officials.
Police have traced and disabled several such fake PM CARES links. Officials reminded people to use the authentic link to donate funds to fight the virus outbreak.
Maharashtra Cyber police have registered 78 cases during the lockdown regarding online misinformation about the outbreak.
In Nashik, three people got arrested for making a TikTok video with a communal angle to the outbreak.
Two persons were booked for a communal post on Facebook in Mumbai. In Dongri, some people gathered in violation of lockdown orders after fake news was circulated through WhatsApp.
